Storytelling Phil McDermott
Phil McDermott has vast experience in telling stories. We decided to work together and use his art form to reach younger children (Key Stages 1 and 2) with stories influenced by the wild imagination of science. Words and concepts from current scientific understanding offer a wealth of possibilities for Phil to work with in his storytelling.
We had a series of meetings with scientists from the High Energy Physics group at University College London. In our discussions we aimed to learn as much about general particle physics understanding as we could follow, as well as the specific areas of research of each of the scientists that we spoke to.
Since these meetings Phil has created stories and has been telling these to primary school children, initially at the Saxon Way School, Gillingham. His first two stories are called 'Bardaglea the Alien' and Bardaglea and the Sports Day'.
